Pack for sun, sea spray and your departure island. Bring swimwear and modest clothes for inhabited islands, then check the exact equipment and baggage rules of your booking.

Clothes for the island you visit

Light clothing suits the tropical setting. Visit Maldives asks visitors to respect local culture and dress modestly on inhabited islands. Bring an outfit for village streets and transfers as well as swimwear. Ask your guesthouse where designated swimming areas are located.

For a day on the boat

Carry sun protection, a hat, swimwear and a dry change of clothes. A dry bag helps protect your phone and travel documents from splashes. The boat operator’s equipment list is decisive: check whether a towel, drinking water, mask, snorkel and fins are included before packing duplicates.

For snorkeling and diving

A rash guard can protect covered skin from sun exposure while snorkeling. Confirm sizing and fit of supplied equipment with the operator. For a scuba experience, complete the required participation checks. Do not use this packing list as a substitute for the operator’s briefing.

Documents and transfers

Keep your booking confirmations and island-transfer instructions accessible. Verify current entry requirements with Maldives Immigration. Baggage rules are determined by your air or sea carrier, especially when a resort uses a seaplane or domestic connection. Check them before closing your suitcase.

Leave the reef as you found it

Take your non-biodegradable waste back with you. Follow Visit Maldives’ advice not to stand on, touch or remove coral. Choose your camera setup around what you can carry securely, and ask before photographing people on local islands.
